Whole Foods Market came under fire yesterday by animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere who held in-store protests over the alleged mistreatment of hens by Petaluma Farms, a California company that supplies humanely certified eggs to Whole Foods. Direct Action Everywhere says they conducted a yearlong investigation of Petaluma and found hens injured, missing feathers, and being de-beaked.

On the heels of the recent police shooting of Antonio Martin, protestors gathered outside the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis, Missouri to mourn his death. According to the Huffington Post , the demonstrators lit candles and held posters in memory of Martin, the 18-year-old who was shot Tuesday evening by Berkeley, Missouri police.

Grist: Speaking to a packed tent of delegates, diplomats, and journalists at the United Nations climate talks in Lima, Peru, this afternoon, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry didnt mention the Keystone XL pipeline by name. Neither, it turned out, could the young American activists who had set up a protest outside of the tent. Curiously, U.N. officials (or the secretariat, as they call it here) had insisted that the protestors strip all mentions of Kerry and Keystone from their signs and banners....

Kinder Morgan loses bid to extend injunction against Canada protesters

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP said on Thursday that it would clear its equipment and crews off a mountain in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby by month-end, after it lost a bid to extend an injunction keeping protesters away from the site. A B.C. Supreme Court judge also threw out civil contempt charges against dozens of protesters arrested while rallying against the pipeline project due to confusion about the GPS coordinates in the original injunction order.
