The Patent Trial and Appeals Board previously authorized Celgene Corporation to move for sanctions against the Coalition for Affordable Drugs , an entity affiliated with a Kyle Bass hedge fund that had filed several inter partes review petitions against Celgene and other biotech companies. As expected, Celgene's recently filed motion focuses on the Coalition's underlying goal of "profit[ing] by affecting stock prices."

Trinity Industries, the Dallas-based maker of rail cars and other transportation products, has filed a flurry of motions over the weekend and this morning seeking to delay, or avoid altogether, a federal trial set to begin later this morning in Marshall. Trinity is being sued by a rival who alleged that the company made dangerous changes to its widely used highway guardrails without first telling the Federal Highway Administration, and therefore owes hundreds of millions of dollars, or more, in fines and restitution.
