(Telecompaper) The company building Australia's National Broadband Network announced it had reached its FY2014 targets by doubling premises ready for service, tripling services activated and quadrupling its revenue. In the 12 months to 30 June, the NBN footprint was extended 1.4 million premises, where is either compete or in progress. The number of premises that can order an NBN service more than doubled to 553,000, up from 227,000 a year earlier, and the number of active NBN users tripled, from 70,000 a year ago to 210,000 today. Each user generated average revenue of AUD 37.34 per month, and the NBN Co generated total revenue of AUD 61 million for the year. Its spending reached AUD 2.5 billion on capital investment and AUD 1.1 billion on operating expenses, supported by a total AUD 8.4 billion in equity funding from the state. The company said it was accelerating its roll-out, based on the government's new design for the network, and it expects the number of active services to again double this year to 480,000. This will include by mid-year the first customers on fibre-to-the-node in parts of NSW and Queensland, where it has started work covering approximately 250,000 premises. BY the end of the current year, the NBN should be available to at least a tenth of Australian premises.
