Quebec spruce budworm link to climate change being studied

CBC: Scientists are investigating how climate change may be influencing a spruce budworm outbreak in Quebecs forests. An area the size of Belgium on Quebecs North Shore is now affected by the highly destructive insect, which feeds on the young needles of white, red and black spruce and balsam ?r trees. Spruce budworm populations go through cyclical fluctuations and reach outbreak proportions once every 30 to 40 years, leading to widespread defoliation and massive losses for the forest industry....

The link between oceanic currents and climate
2014-07-07 08:09:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Environmental News Network: For decades, climate scientists have tried to explain why ice-age cycles became longer and more intense about 900,000 years ago, switching from 41,000-year cycles to 100,000-year cycles. In a new study in the journal Science, researchers found that the deep ocean currents that move heat around the globe stalled or even stopped, possibly due to expanding ice cover in the north. The slowing currents increased carbon dioxide storage in the ocean, leaving less in the atmosphere, which kept temperatures...
