Copernicus Climate Change Service C3S Reprocessing Engineer two 2 Positions 1613183 Job Description We are looking for 2 Reprocessing Engineers for our client EUMETSAT. Your work will focus on the provision of consistently processed multidecadal FCDR and Thematic Climate Data Records TCDR from various operational satellite instruments. Your main tasks will include Implementation, maintenance and operation of data processing systems operational processors and processing chains for the generation of climate data records for C3S that can handle data from satellites in geostationary and polar orbit automated climate product quality monitoringvalidation tools taking benefit of existing operational tools data bases used for the data record generation and product monitoringvalidation Test, verification and validation of operational processors and processing chains implemented in the operational climate data processing infrastructure Porting of prototype software, e.g., from IDL into CFortran or Python Acquisition of relevant data from internal and external sources to support product quality monitoring Support to the analysis of the data record quality employing quality monitoring procedures and other validation techniques and data as appropriate Preparation of data records for the submission to the C3S CDS and ingestion into the EUMETSAT Data Centre Compilation of technical documentation of the operational processors, processing chains and data formats Required Skills and Experience A University degree in a relevant computer or natural science subject Indepth knowledge and proven experience in Software engineering for data processing involving large data volumes, preferably for satellite data, including product validation Programming using CC andor Fortran 95 and higher programming languages as well as scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, Shell UnixLinux environments Use and administration of data bases such as Oracle and MySQL Data formats such as NetCDF4, HDF5, GRIB, BUFR and the decoding of binary data formats Familiarity with operational procedures for software verification and validation Occasional travel within Europe is likely to be required for project progress meetings In addition you shall have Strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation of results Excellent technical writing skills Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills Desirable Skills and Experience Use of satellite data for climate monitoring Measurement uncertainty analysis principles and methods Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 15 November 2016 Start of Work January 2017 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career.
