Efforts to reduce Chesapeake Bay nitrogen pollution from industrial and municipal sources continued to make progress in key Bay states in 2012, according to researchers at the Environmental Integrity Project (EIP). Nitrogen discharges from point sources dropped significantly in Virginia, the District of Columbia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania between 2011 and 2012, while Maryland, Delaware, and New York actually increased nitrogen pollution.

Source: Iowa Pork Producers Association Researchers have seen some encouraging signs after the first year of a three-year collaborative research project investigating foaming manure pits under swine barns, according to an Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) report. The research project involves nearly two dozen scientists at Iowa State University (ISU), the University of Minnesota (UMN) and the University of Illinois (UI), in addition to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) scientists based at ISU. read more
