The Dallas company said Friday that Iusacell has 8.6 million subscribers under the Iusacell and UnefA3n brand names. AT&T had 116.6 million subscribers as of June 30. The company sees potential for growth in Mexico because of its rising population and middle class, even as the proportion of Mexican people with wireless service lags other Latin American countries, according to AT&T.

According to the report, the Japanese operator is in advanced stages of reviewing Iusacell's assets. Mexican holding Salinas Group has recently purchased a 50 percent stake in Iusacell from broadcasting group Televisa. As a result of the USD 717 million deal, Salinas Group will now fully own Iusacell, which is the country's third-largest mobile operator. The Mexican firm said that it will announce the new strategic partner once local regulatory agencies approves the acquisition of the 50 percent stake. .

(Telecompaper) Mexico's Salinas Group has purchased a 50 percent stake in mobile operator Iusacell from broadcasting group Televisa. As a result of the USD 717 million deal, Salinas Group will now fully own the country's third-largest mobile operator. Salinas Group said it is in the process of selecting an international partner to help boost Iusacell's growth. In a statement to the Mexican stock exchange, Televisa said it will make a book loss of around USD 320 million on the sale. The transaction is subject to approval by regulators. Iusacell has around 8 million customers.
