Manufacturers Praise Trade Provisions in spending bill.

In her statement released after Congress released details of its spending bill, NAM's Linda Dempsey lauded congressional leaders for listening to manufacturers and moving to take 2 major actions to promote U.S. exports. Dempsey cited lifting of "decades-old" crude oil exports ban as well as repeal of Country-of-Origin Labelling (COOL) provisions. Latter, according to Dempsey, "have repeatedly been found inconsistent with global trade rules the United States has helped create."

Manufacturers Applaud House Action on customs conference report.

In her statement following House's passage of legislation updating and improving U.S. customs and border policies, NAM Vice President of International Economic Affairs Linda Dempsey said this action is "one step" towards updating outdated policies and improving trade facilitation and enforcement. She also challenged Senate "to keep its commitment to growing manufacturing in the United States by moving on this legislation as soon as possible."

Manufacturers Applaud Bipartisan Agreement on tax provisions.

NAM welcomed bipartisan agreement by Congress on tax provisions considered crucial to manufacturing growth/competition. Said agreement would make several key tax provisions for manufacturers permanent, including R&D tax credit, Section 179 expensing, and deferral for active financing income. Also, package would provide seamless multiyear extensions of 50+ other expired tax provisions. NAM's Dorothy Coleman called this announcement "a historic and very promising breakthrough."

Aerospace, Defense Manufacturers saw significant progress in 2015.

Aerospace and defense industry achieved a number of its top priorities in 2015. Despite being delayed, Export-Import Bank of the United States was reauthorized for 4 years. Relief from budget caps, imposed under Budget Control Act of 2011, was achieved for 2016 and 2017 via passage of Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015. Also, there were hopeful signs that year-long omnibus with extension of R&D Tax Credit will pass. AIA President and CEO Dave Melcher said, "...there’s still a lot of work to do."
