Oceanography Technical and Scientific Support MF

Mission The activities for this consultancy will include engineering and scientific aspects related to the development of methods for the calibration and validation of mission product data as well as the development of the monitoring functions of the product generating facilities within the Sentinel3 ground segment Marine Centre. These methods and functions are setup partly in dedicated facilities, partly in a multimission context. The consultant will also contribute to other marine product chains. Emphasis will be on support of the optical mission product chains. The consultant will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in Oceanography team of experts and scientists of the RSPMAsection of the Technical and Science Support Department. The consultant will work at EUMETSAT Headquarters, located in Darmstadt, Germany. The tasks and responsibilities will include Preparation of test data and product readers Support to the development of tools for calibration andor validation Support to the development of tools for product processing monitoring Contribution to the verification and validation of product generation Contribution to the assessment of performance budgets Contribution to the execution of scientific support studies Participation in reviews. The support will involve crossdivisional interactions and interface with experts in various disciplines system engineering, instruments, operations, science. Profile The consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum level of supervision. The consultant shall have the following experience and background University degree in remote sensing, oceanography, meteorology, physics, or equivalent Good interpersonal skills in support of team work A 3 year or longer experience with satellite Sea Surface Temperature andor Ocean Colour data sets, or with microwave radiometry Experience in the development and validation of satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such asCC or Java Skills in writing technical and scientific documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office The following experience would be an additional asset Experience with satellite altimetry of the ocean surface Hands on experience with calibration and product validation methods Experience with large data sets. This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for scientific engineering consultancy mainly in the areas of optical imaging for oceanography products, e.g. sea surface temperature or ocean colour products. You should have a university degree in remote sensing, oceanography, meteorology, physics or equivalent. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations.
