The semiconductor company is bringing the ARM architecture to the chip technologies the company inherited when it bought chip maker Tilera. EZchip Semiconductor, leveraging the technology it inherited when it bought Tilera last fall, is planning to put 100 ARM-based 64-bit cores into a processor aimed at a rapidly evolving networking market.

EZchip, which counts Cisco Systems Inc. and Juniper Networks Inc. as its largest customers, said Oct. 6 that third- quarter sales would miss its own guidance by more than 10 percent, sparking a 14 percent retreat in its New York-traded shares last week.
