The Dallas-based company took a hit because of currency translation effects for chip sales sold in Euro and Yen terms, as well as its low exposure to the PC market and wireless infrastructure, which weighed on chip demand. "Despite soft demand in some key markets, our optimism around healthy automotive and industrial revenue growth for TI remains unchanged," Brian Colello , analyst with Morningstar , wrote in his TI earnings note Thursday, after noting that most of TI's auto-related categories experienced double-digit increases in sales.

Texas Instruments Inc. posted higher profits and revenue based on strong automotive and industrial markets, but the company expects a tougher current quarter. The chipmaker today reported that its first-quarter net profit jumped 35 percent to $656 million, or 61 cents per share, from $487 million, or 44 cents per share, a year earlier.

What to expect when Texas Instruments reports Q1 financials Wednesday

We'll see when the Dallas-based semiconductor company reports its first-quarter financial results tomorrow after the market closes. Some 30 analysts polled by Thomson One/Reuters expect TI to post earnings per share of 62 cents for the first quarter, up 42 percent form a year earlier.
