Maple Leaf Foods announced that the company will require all of its protein, ingredient and packaging suppliers to become food safety certified to a Global Food Safety Initiative standard in 2017. "We committed to certifying our operations to GFSI-benchmarked standards five years ago and extending this commitment across our supply chain is an important and appropriate next step in our food safety leadership," said Michael H. Maple Leaf Foods Inc. narrowed its loss in the most recent quarter as restructuring costs for its business were reduced by 64 per cent. The Toronto-based meat processor reported losses from continuing operations dropped to $7.5 million in the second quarter from $39.5 million in the same period last year.
