The Hawaii Department of Transportation's two ZipMobiles used for the H-1 Freeway ZipperLane are now both in operational condition after breaking down on Tuesday, March 31, due to electrical malfunctions. The original ZipMobile breakdown on Tuesday morning was caused by an intermittent electrical problem with its computer battery pack unit.

US trucking industry wants hair testing for drugs approved by DOT

The US trucking industry is calling on Congress to approve bipartisan legislation that would allow the industry to perform drug tests using hair testing. "ATA is committed to improving highway safety, including doing all we can to prevent individuals who use drugs or alcohol from driving trucks," said ATA president and CEO Bill Graves.

DOT and FAA propose new rules for small UAS.

FAA has proposed framework of regulations that would allow routine use of certain small unmanned aircraft systems in today's aviation system, while maintaining flexibility to accommodate future technological innovations. Proposal offers safety rules for UAS under 55 lb conducting non-recreational operations. Rule would limit flights to daylight and visual-line-of-sight operations. It also addresses height restrictions, operator certification, aircraft registration/marking, and operational limits.
