Dr. Daniel Laird will join Energy Department's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) on October 12 as director of National Wind Technology Center (NWTC). Expressing excitement for joining NWTC's research team, Laird said he "looks forward to working with the wind energy and water power teams to deliver the next generation of clean, reliable, and cost-effective power generation technologies." NWTC encompasses 305 acres at base of the foothills south of Boulder, CO.

Hoesung Lee called for a more bottom-up approach to compiling the periodic Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment reports. The South Korean energy economist, who started his career at US oil major Exxon in the 1970s, told journalists businesses had a role to play.
