Its well known that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and several federal legislators are quite concerned about distracted driving and that connected cars need to be used safely. The benefits of connected car technology are being researched and supported lately by federal officials but theres one risk factor looming on the horizon computer hackers playing games and wreaking havoc on roads. During a recent US Senate hearing NHTSA Administrator David Strickland and committee chair Sen. Jay Rockefeller voiced concerns about the potential danger. Rockefeller wonders about risk level of catastrophic cyberattacks as cars become more connected to internet, wireless networks, and with each other. So far, theres been only one hacker attack done by a dealers disgruntled former employee that disabled cars and set off honking horns.
