2015-02-12 15:33:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
EcoWatch: Yesterday, 95 scientists and economists released a letter urging President Obama and Secretary Kerry to reject the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, calling it a step in the wrong direction if the Obama administration is serious about addressing climate change. The letter draws upon comments President Obama made at Georgetown University in June 2013 when he stated, allowing the Keystone pipeline to be built requires a finding that doing so would be in our nations interest. US Congress set to pass bill approving Keystone, but Obama has vowed to use veto
2015-02-11 21:26:34| Oil & Gas - Topix.net
The United States Congress is set to send a bill approving the privately funded Canadian Keystone XL oil pipeline project to President Barack Obama, who has vowed to veto it. The House is expected to pass the bill easily Wednesday, capping weeks of debate over one of Republicans' top priorities - a bill authorizing the construction of the much-delayed pipeline project of Calgary based TransCanada Corp. However, support in both the Senate and House has not been enough to override a veto, and backers of the bill said they are already strategizing ways to get it approved by other means, such as attaching it to a broader energy or spending bill.

The Senate passed the measure 62-36, with nine Democrats joining all Republicans in voting in favor. An almost identical bill already passed...

LA times: After weeks of unusually robust debate, the Senate on Thursday approved legislation to expedite construction of the massive Keystone XL pipeline, brushing aside President Obama`s threat to veto the measure. Passage secured not only a top Republican policy victory but also a political success for new Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who made Keystone his first priority.
