(Telecompaper) Week 16 was heavy on M&A and auctions related news. The Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms Services ended the week up 0.4 percent, behind the EuroStoxx 50's 1.5 percent gain. Year-to-date, our index is strongly underperforming the broader market with a gain of just 6.4 percent, versus +16.6 percent for the EuroStoxx 50.

(Telecompaper) The ongoing German spectrum auction appears to be taking a toll on the European telecoms sector. Most German shares ended week 15 down. A number of M&A related reports couldn't prevent the Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms Services from ending week 15 with a loss of 0.9%. The EuroStoxx 50 index closed the week unchanged.

(Telecompaper) Belated Q4 results came in from Tiscali (-6.3%), while shifting focus to 5G and fixed-wireless access, and an MTS (+7.8%) subsidiary. Dividend announcements were published by Turk Telekom (+3.2%), skipping its dividend, Euskaltel (-1.1%) and Swisscom (-5.4%). More results related news was delivered by KPN (-0.6%), restating the 2018 numbers for the impact of the new IFRS 16 accounting rules on leases. SES (+9.7%) reported 355 million households serviced, or around 1 billion people.

Last week in telecoms: focus on BT, TIM, Altice Europe and the German market

(Telecompaper) Winners and losers in the Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms roughly balanced each other in week 13. Still, the index was down 1.6 percent versus a gain of 1.4 percent for the EuroStoxx 50 index. This was the result mainly of the heavyweights going down, both Deutsche Telekom (-5.4%) and Vodafone (-3.1%). Altice Europe (+18%) was the week's winner, followed closely by the pennystock Forthnet (+18%). 1&1 Drillisch (-16%), Veon (-14%), Go Internet (-12%) and Turk Telekom (-12%) suffered double digit losses.
