A Special Use request to turn a vacant property on State Road 64 into an auto sales business narrowly passed Wednesday, after Bradenton City Council members debated the merits of having a dealership sit at the city's main entrance from I-75. Bemis Smith, who voted 'no' on the 3-2 motion, said he was concerned about the effects of placing a car lot at what he called the "primary visual corridor" area for the city.

Finishing its exit from the former Rohm & Haas Co. headquarters on Independence Mall, Dow Chemical told about 350 employees there Wednesday that they would be relocated to a suburban corporate center in Collegeville by mid-2016.
