Reuters: An industrial city in eastern China has closed several factories, including many steel and nickel pig iron producers, in an apparent sign the government is stepping up enforcement of a new environmental law in the face of growing public discontent over pollution. Oregon City fined $6000 for raw sewage discharge in Newell Creek tributary

The state Department of Environmental Quality has fined Oregon City $6000 for discharging 1,750 gallons of raw sewage into a Newell Creek tributary. The sewage was discharged on Nov. 26 from a broken force main, or pressurized pipe, near the Barclay Hills Sanitary Sewer Pump Station, according to a DEQ press release.

March 31 deadline set for Queen City Pop Up

The City of Buffalo has set a March 31 deadline for retailers looking to participate in this springs's "Queen City Pop Up" initiative. Following the success of the first "Queen City Pop Up," held in December in donated space inside the Market Arcade complex, Buffalo leaders have secured donated retail space in the historic Pierce Building - located almost across from Shea's Performing Arts Center - for the spring edition.
