The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is celebrating the 110th anniversary of the New York City subway system with two days of opportunities for the public to take the train as generations of customers have done in the past. The first subway line, which connected City Hall with Harlem, opened on Oct. 27, 1904.

Schnitzer proposes Centennial Mills project but wants more city subsidies

Jordan Schnitzer and his company Harsch Investment Properties have proposed a $115.7 million redevelopment of the historic Centennial Mills waterfront site in Northwest Portland, but there's a catch. The concept being discussed by Harsch and the Portland Development Commission requires $38.5 million in public subsidies, but the city urban renewal authority has so far budgeted $16.2 million to subsidize the project.
