Feds increase Arctic oil estimates in move to appease court

Hill: The Obama administration increased its estimates on Friday for the amount of oil that is recoverable from Arctic drilling leases sold to oil companies in 2008. The move, which nearly quadruples the Bureau of Ocean Energy Managements (BOEM) initial estimates, is in response to a court decision in January, which ruled the administration issued an unsound environmental review of the 2008 drilling leases. The leases in questions were sold to companies who wanted to drill in the Arctics Chukchi Sea....
Arctic ice melt doubles risk of frigid Eurasian winters, study finds

Mashable: Global warming-related sea ice melt in a portion of the vast Arctic Ocean has doubled the risk of colder and snowier winters in Eurasia since 2004, a new study found. The study is the latest in a spate of recent research to examine the ties between rapid Arctic warming and the rest of the Northern Hemisphere. Much of that research is still highly contentious in the mainstream climate science community. Here is what scientists agree on: The Arctic is warming at a rate about twice as fast as...
Melting Arctic increasing the chance of cold winters in Europe and Asia
2014-10-27 13:38:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Blue and Green: Loss of ice in the Arctic triggered by global warming could result in more severe winters in Europe and central Asia, as freezing air from altered wind patterns would be pushed southwards, according to new research. Warming global temperatures driven by increased levels of greenhouse gas emissions have caused a rapid sea ice loss in the Arctic, which in also accelerating global warming, as sun light ends up into the ocean instead of being reflected away, therefore causing ocean temperatures to...

Mongabay: Lego has announced it will be severing its partnership with the oil giant, Dutch Royal Shell, when the current contract expires after a clever campaign by environmental activist group, Greenpeace. Since 2011, Lego has been selling exclusive sets at Shell stations-a deal valued at $116 million-but the companies' relationship actually goes back decades. In 1966, the Danish toy company first began selling Lego sets with Shell's brand stamped on them. Greenpeace targeted the partnership due to Shell's...
