Steam Rising from Crippled Fukushima Reactor Causes Concern

Nature World News: Officials from Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) suspect that steam rising out of the top of a destroyed nuclear reactor at the beleaguered Fukushima Daiichi nuclear campus is the result of rainwater somehow making its way into the building, but workers onsite are prepared to douse the reactor with boric acid, should a sustained nuclear reaction begin to occur. Leaks spur Japan's crippled nuclear plant to expand storage

2013-04-11 13:27:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Reuters: Tokyo Electric Power, the utility that operates the Japanese nuclear plant devastated two years ago by an earthquake and tsunami, is scrambling to build more tanks to safely store radioactive water after leaks were found at makeshift pits. Workers at the Fukushima Daiichi plant have so far filled up more than 80 percent of the 325,000 metric tons (1 metric ton = 1.102 tons) of available storage with groundwater contaminated by the damaged nuclear reactors. Leaks in the current water transfer...
