BIO applauds Representatives Leonard Lance (R-NJ) and Anna Eshoo (D-CA) for introducing the FDA Safety Over Sequestration Act, which would exempt privately paid user fees paid to FDA from any future operation of sequestration. BIO firmly believes that preventing FDA user fees from becoming subject to future periods of sequestration is critical to protecting patients and supporting public health, and calls on Congress to quickly consider and pass this vital legislation.

Twitter has announced actions to further protect users of its network -- but it left them vague. The company is rolling out unspecified improvements to its reporting process for content issues including impersonation, self-harm, and the sharing of private and confidential information, aka "doxing." It's also beginning to add new enforcement actions for use against accounts that violate its rules.

Alleged Patient Safety Kickbacks Lead To $1 Million Settlement

Dr. Chuck Denham, once a leading voice for patient safety, will pay $1 million to settle civil allegations that he took kickbacks to promote a drug company's product in national health quality guidelines, the Justice Department announced Monday. Denham, a patient safety consultant from Laguna Beach, Calif., had allegedly solicited and accepted monthly payments from CareFusion Corp., maker of the antiseptic ChloraPrep, while serving as co-chairman of a National Quality Forum committee in 2009 and 2010.
