This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at ESTEC in Noordwijk in The Netherlands. Technology Transfer Engineer 1411022 Job Description The mission of the Technology Transfer Programme Office TTPO is to facilitate the use of space technology and space systems for nonspace applications and to further demonstrate the benefit of the European Space Programme to European Citizens. The TTPO is responsible for defining the overall approach and strategy for the transfer of space technologies including the incubation of startup companies and their funding. The technology transfer process is carried out in several different ways by the Technology Transfer Network TTN involving technology brokers. through national technology transfer initiatives NTTI. through opportunities announced on the Technology Transfer Forum online market place. through a number of other initiatives. The Head of the TTPO requires a Technology Transfer Officer who will focus on liaising with scientists and engineers at ESA particularly ESTEC with a view to familiarizing himselfherself with the technological developments taking place within the Agency and under ESA contracts. Such an activity will complement the activities of the technology brokers in the TTN into which the output of the ESA RD activities will be fed by the Technology Transfer Officer. The Technology Transfer Officer will also be involved in the following activities Helping to make an initial evaluation of the technical and financial possibilities to transfer andor commercialize technologies identified in dedicated work packages relating to commercial evaluation as an outcome of ESA technology development contracts especially those resulting from TRPGSTP funding and ensuring that the Technology Transfer Brokers in each member State are kept informed of the companies and universities involved for the purposed of technology extraction. Helping to make an initial assessment of proposals for feasibility studies resulting from an Open Call relating to ideas and possibilities for the transfer of a space technology to a given nonspace application and ascertaining whether these ideas are feasible or not and should be conducted by external experts. Since funding for feasibility studies is limited a suitable selection has to be made from the proposals. The TT Officer will help in evaluating the proposals as they come in and selecting those for study, as well as helping to select the expert who will carry out the study, and subsequently monitoring progress. The TT Officer will also be expected to follow developments and provide support where necessary to the brokers under the National Technology Transfer Initiative. The TT Officer will also help actively contribute to other existing activities, such as Intellectual properties activities, Business Incubation Centre support and all other TTPO tasks when required. Required Skills and Experience Degree in a relevant technical or scientific discipline. Diplomas or experience in relevant areas such as technology transfer, technology assessment, commercialization, marketing, economics, business administration, legal affairs, entrepreneurship, innovative design or public relations would also be useful. Familiarity and experience in the R D area and technology development processes, in particular in the space sector, is a distinctive advantage. Fluency in English. Candidates should also be motivated, show initiative and be capable of working with a minimum of supervision. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of ProgrammeProject management and control technique, method and tools. Autonomy, authority and ability to interface with ESA staff in high level positions. Demonstrated ability to analyse and synthesise complex information. Rigor, commitment and reliability in the execution of the assigned tasks. Proactive attitude to solving problems, identify priority actions and to handle high workload. Familiarity with modern electronics office automation tools e.g. Microsoft Office suite and techniques, customised database and Internet software applications. Desirable Skills and Experience Previous experience of working with ESA staff. Previous experience of working with ESA staff is desirable. Furthermore, candidates are required to have following skills Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Capable of working with a minimum of supervision. High level of flexibility. Good organization skills, good communication skills.
