Senior Software Design Architect Engineer

Job Description Astroscale is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated Software Design Architect Engineer for a senior position at our facility based in Harwell, UK. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. This senior role will allow the right candidate to shape solutions for our missions and to develop the team capable of delivering them. Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in Astroscales Japan office, and may expect to be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Lead development and architectural design activities for the flight software on Astroscale spacecraft o Derive and maintain software requirements, define software solutions and system architectures. o Define ICDs, development and verification plans. o Design, develop, and validate spacecraft flight software, ground test software, and simulation software. Coordinate with other teams at subsystem and at system level to identify software needs and solutions. Support definition and generation of ConOps. Perform the Flight Software verification, validation and integration. Participate in the Mission System Test and Simulation campaigns. Support knowledge transfer from Astroscale teams globally and provide technical review inputs to projects across the Astroscale organisation. Provide experienced guidance and mentoring to junior team members. Essential Skills Bachelor or masters degree in computer science, software engineering or relevant engineeringscience discipline. 5 years of commercial experience in flight software development for satellites. Experience with embedded systems programming CC. Knowledge of software development methodologies embedded software engineering. Familiarity with commonly used protocols and standards for spacecraft communications, such as CCSDS, CAN, Spacewire. Experience of implementing realtime systems and software solutions on spacecraft missions. Experience in developing and implementing test plans for spacecraft. Proactive and selfmanaging, able to plan and effectively lead areas of responsibility whilst contributing collaboratively within a closeknit team. Desired Skills Familiarity with AgileScrum software development practices. Experience of spacecraft design lifecycle at all stages from initial concept to design, test, and operations. Knowledge of Ground segment architectures. Basic Linux system administration, shell scripts, make, etc. Development on Linux systems. Knowledge of scripting languages e.g. Python, Matlab, bash. Knowledge of assembler for microcontrollers. A basic knowledge in the following areas debris removal, endoflife, inorbit servicing. Whilst the working language across all Astroscale divisions is English, proficiency in spoken andor written Japanese would be considered an asset. Structural Design Engineer

The ideal candidate will have a broad experience in the Mechanical design of space mechanisms and structures andor MGSE. Key Responsibilities Support the structural and mechanical design efforts for spacecraft development, including lander and other transportation system elements Collaborate on architecture design, trade studies, component and manufacturing process selection Support product definition, specification and requirements efforts Support preliminary design including trade studies, material, component and manufacturing process selection Support detailed design of spacecraft systems for structural, thermal and operational performance Supporting other engineers analysis by providing and simplifying 3D models Support rapid prototyping, hardware assembly, integrating and test Develop and maintain software for structures and mechanisms design Support testing including travel to test sites Report to the Spacecraft Structures Lead Maintain strong communication with spacecraft development team leadership and effectively partner with different program elements to balance and achieve program goals Educated give guidance to junior engineer Required Skills and Qualifications Hold BS in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or robotics with 3 years of experience in the design of space applications andor MGSE. Possess proven track record of developing mechanical products metallic and composite from concept to fabrication Is knowledgeable about mechanical design, material selection, and fabrication processes for spaceflight hardware Has extensive experience with CAD software packages Has Knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerance GDT Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Be comfortable with change and fastpace environment Proactive attitude, team player Preferred Experience Proficiency in Solidworks CAD package Design of complex mechanisms Be knowledgeable of space environmental tests Has experience with spacecraft design and integration Has experience with new development project English Resume and Cover Letter are required when applying this position.
