The Great Lakes region could see less lake effect snow and more rain by the late 21st century, a new study suggests. The study by University of Wisconsin researchers says a warmer planet will mean up to a 50 percent drop in lake effect snow in areas downwind of the Great Lakes, which includes Buffalo and Syracuse.

Syracuse: The Great Lakes region could see less lake effect snow and more rain by the late 21st century, a new study suggests. The study by University of Wisconsin researchers says a warmer planet will mean up to a 50 percent drop in lake effect snow in areas downwind of the Great Lakes, which includes Buffalo and Syracuse. As the lakes and air get several degrees warmer, and ice nearly disappears from the lakes, the air blowing from the west will bring more rain, the study says. "The total amount of...

Newsweek: Almost a century ago, Russian botanist N.I. Vavilov was traveling the world in search of new species when he identified why equatorial rain forests are so critical to the Earths future: Theyre the source-pool for 90 percent of the planets biodiversity. Rain forests have been the focus of global conservation efforts ever since. Today, as climate negotiators convene for the United Nations Climate Summit 2014 in Lima, Perua country that is dead-center in that genetically rich belt of land around...

Think again. Freaky seasons and drastic weather anomalies do little to convince most people that climate change is real - political ideology does much more, according to a study published online Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change. The study found that people who saw the winter of...
