WebOS has had a strange and troubled life. After surviving an acquisition, cancellation, and an open-source rebirth, the next chapter in the WebOS story is being written today. LG, a South Korean electronics giant, has officially purchased the mobile operating system from HP, but not for smartphones. Instead, LG is buying WebOS for use on smart TVs.

MWC Live: LG Electronics acquires webOS assets from HP - to be reused for Smart TVs

According to a now pulled article at CNet , LG said today that it was acquiring webOS from Hewlett-Packard . However, unlike you might expect, the Korean electronic giant has no intentions to use it for mobile phones but instead it was said that LG will use it for its range of smart TVs.
