No Telecom Italia partnership talks underway Vivendi CEO

2015-11-03 09:12:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Vivendi will not be making an offer to take over Telecom Italia either on its own or with any other potential partner, according to the French media group's CEO Arnaud de Puyfontaine. "Since we increased our stake, there has been a lot of speculation of Vivendi playing on behalf of Orange...but it has never been on the agenda. There has not been any discussion between Vivendi and Orange," de Puyfontaine told the Financial Times. The Vivendi CEO was responding to French press reports suggesting that his company, currently Telecom Italia's largest shareholder with a 20.03 percent stake, had held talks with other investors, including Orange and Egyptian telecoms billionaire Naguib Sawiris over the Italian operator's future. Last week French entrepreneur Xavier Niel, founder of internet provider Iliad, increased his holding in Telecom Italia via options that could give him a stake of more than 15 percent in Telecom Italia. "The situation both for Niel and for Naguib Sawiris is the same answer: there has not been a discussion with them about Telecom Italia," said de Puyfontaine.

Vivendi raises Telecom Italia stake over 20%

2015-10-26 08:38:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) French media conglomerate Vivendi has announced that it has further boosted its stake in Telecom Italia to 20.03 percent of the company's ordinary shares. Vivendi has been the Italian operator's largest shareholder since June, when it received 8.24 percent of shares from Telefonica as part-payment for the sale of its Brazilian broadband unit GVT and purchased 6.66 percent of additional shares. The French group subsequently increased its holding to 15.5 percent in September and 19.9 percent earlier this month. In a statement Vivendi reiterated its intention to be a long-term shareholder of the Italian telecoms group and, more generally, to develop Vivendi's activities in southern Europe. The company is said to be looking for a wider platform for the distribution of content created by its subsidiaries such as Canal Plus and Universal Music Group in Italy.

(Telecompaper) French media conglomerate Vivendi has confirmed that it has increased its stake in Telecom Italia from its current holding of 15.5 percent to 19.9 percent of the capital. Vivendi has been the Italian operator's largest shareholder since June, when it received 8.24 percent of shares from Telefonica as part-payment for the sale of its Brazilian broadband unit GVT and purchased 6.66 percent of additional shares. The French group subsequently increased its holding to just under 15.5 percent in September and has now raised that stake to just under 20 percent by spending EUR 3.054 billion on the market at a price of around EUR 1.14 per ordinary share. In a statement Vivendi said its new investment served to confirm its intention to support Telecom Italia over the long term and to develop its activities in southern Europe.
