TrueVisions passes the 2 million customer mark in Thailand

Thailand's True Corporation has released results for the fourth quarter and full year 2012. TrueVisions subscribers rose to 2.04 million (from 1.64 million at the end of 2011) with a strong pickup in premium subscriptions and free-to--air customers.

Videotron's illico TV passes half million subscriber mark

Videotron (Toronto: QBR.A; QBR.B) has announced that it has reached a new milestone, passing the half-million customer mark for its illico TV service. Less than one year after the launch of the new platform, 500,000 Videotron customers are enjoying its speed, simplicity and HD content.

Fibre passes cable on global broadband market

(Telecompaper) FTTx technologies surpassed cable networks in terms of broadband subscriber numbers in Q3 2012, according to the latest figures from Point Topic for the Broadband Forum. At the end of Q3, FTTx had 125.05 million users or 19.7 percent of the global market, versus 121.01 million cable users, equal to a 19.1 percent share. Copper still accounted for over half the market, with 366.96 million broadband users. FTTx also showed the strongest growth in subscribers over Q3, at 26.8 percent year-on-year, while cable grew 7.9 percent, and copper was up 4.8 percent. Of the 54 million new broadband subscribers added in the year to September 2012, 26 million are served by fibre (48%). In total there were 635 million broadband subscribers worldwide at the end of the period, with 12 million new users added in Q3 alone. The figures were announced at the FTTH Conference Europe in London, where the Broadband Forum is also highlighting its work on GPON certification.

Illinois Senate Executive Committee Passes Bill to Get the Smart Grid and Job Creation Back on Track

Today, the Illinois Senate Executive Committee passed Senate Bill 9 out of committee by a vote of 14 to 0. SB 9 clarifies existing language in the Smart Grid law enacted in 2011 to get the Smart Grid program back on track, and ensures the state's economy and consumers reap the full benefits of improved reliability, job creation and investment in the state's infrastructure, while maintaining strong consumer protections.
