Latin America OTT TV & video ready for take-off

OTT TV and video revenues in Latin America will reach $2.91 billion in 2020; up from the $1.13 billion expected in 2015, according to Digital TV Research. From the $2,126 million in revenues to be added between 2014 and 2020, Brazil will contribute $938 million and Mexico $437 million.

Lebara has announced the launch of an entertainment service for migrants. Lebara Play will be the only multi-ethnic entertainment service bringing together free and premium, fully licensed content in 13 languages in one place, without long-term commitments.

Lebara to launch OTT video service

(Telecompaper) Lebara announced a new OTT video service at a partner event in London. Lebara's new Play video service will target its traditional audience of immigrants and people of different ethnic backgrounds, offering over 3,000 movies and 150 channels in 13 languages. Subscriptions will cost GBP/EUR 9.99 per month with no fixed contract. A year contract will cost the equivalent of ten months.  The company is also developing its own set-top box for the service, which will be offered at retailers at an introductory price of GBP/EUR 149 including a 12-month subscription. Content partners for the video service include the Tamil channels provider Sun Network, African Movie Channel, African channel Ebony Life, Nigerian channel Silverbird, Nollywood TV and Turkish channel. Developed with SPB TV, Lebara Play will work across smartphones, tablets and computers, with an Android app launched first and iOS following soon. Users will be able to access the service on up to three devices, including two simultaneously, and pick up watching a programme across devices. Lebara plans to roll out the video service gradually, in all markets where it operates. The service will launch first in the UK, Netherlands, Germany and France by the end of June. The rest of Europe will launch over the summer, and other territories worldwide will receive the service by year-end, with an expanding catalogue to include Romanian, Polish, Hindi and other content packages covering 13 languages.

Millennials to account for 65% of Latin America OTT video consumption

According to TDG, Latin America is poised to become a significant market for OTT video, with use especially prominent among younger adults. By 2025, TDG forecasts that consumers between the ages of 18 and 34 will account for 65% of all OTT viewing.

Vimond to provide managed cloud OTT TV for Nordisk Film brands

Vimond Media Solutions has announced a collaboration with Nordisk Film. As part of the agreement, Vimond will provide an end-to-end managed cloud OTT-TV and video streaming service for Nordisk Film brands such as minbio.dk and Dansk Film Skat.
