For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Meteorological Products Software Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities As Meteorological Products Software Engineer you should analyse, support the design, operational implementation and validation of the agreed changes to product algorithms. Similarly, you should support the design, implementation and validation of new product algorithms. The work is carried out in small project teams consisting of relevant experts. You will also be involved in the analysis and resolution of anomalies relating to the product generation software. Your tasks will typically include Analysis of product change proposals Design, implementation and validation of updated new algorithms Documentation of changes related to product updates Preparation of technical notes on product implementation issues Development, maintenance and update of product generation monitoring software and the corresponding database Monitoring and operating the product generation facilities Visualisation and analysis of geophysical products. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing, you should have minimum of 5 years of experience in operational product generation from satellite remote sensing data. In addition, experience in validation of geophysical products from satellite data is highly desirable. Furthermore, you should have practical, demonstrable experience with Algorithm software development using FORTRAN 9095 IntelGNULinux and or IBMPOWERAIX environments Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification and their documentation Source code control systems Subversion and or git Anomaly correction processes Python and IDL programming languages Common meteorological data formats, i.e., BUFR, CAP, GRIB, HDF5, and netCDF Authoring clear and concise technical documentation. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Desirables Practical, demonstrable experience of the following will be advantageous Algorithm software development using CC programming language The operating systems GNULinux and AIX Relational databases using SQL. You should be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. You are expected to work in a team and may be called upon to present your work, therefore good communication skills are a necessity. Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced project coordinator manager to provide support to the User Preparation Project for the operations preparation phases of the Meteosat Third Generation MTG mission. The MTG User Preparation Project is managed within EUMETSATs User Support and Climate USC Division, through the organisation and coordination of the tasks identified in the upcoming project plan. Responsibilities You will support the MTG user preparation activities through coordination of the MTG User Preparation Project. Additionally, you will support some of the user engagement activities identified in this Project. You will be part of the User Support Team and will work with experts across EUMETSAT and partners organisations. The main tasks, within the coordination role, are Maintain the MTG User Preparation Project plan and associated documentation and schedule related activities Collect and collate User Preparation Project inputs from all internal EUMETSAT stakeholders, in particular those parts of the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division providing the scientific development support for the MTG Programme and the teams within the Geostationary Programme Division GEO responsible for providing the operational Level 1 and Level 2 processors Arrange and attend regular MTG User Preparation Project team meetings and prepare meeting reports as required Record and monitor any open actions associated with the MTG User Preparation Project Prepare inputs to management reports on the status of the MTG User Preparation Project Keep abreast of guidelines issued by the World Meteorological Organization WMO regarding user readiness activities for next generation satellites and prepare inputs and followup actions as required. The main tasks, within the supporting preparation activities, are Support external coordination and user engagement activities for MTG user preparation, e.g. supporting RSP workshops, preparing and collating results from user surveys, etc. Support the Web Content Developers in the preparation of content for the MTG user information area on the EUMETSAT website Support the Training Team with updated information on the status of the MTG User Preparation Project for inclusion in training events. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a university degree in relevant discipline, preferably in remote sensing, meteorology or environmental sciences, you shall meet the following essential criteria Proven experience in project coordination or a project management role An ability to relate to user groups of remotely sensed data and products Experience in remote sensing related to meteorological observation needs Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Experience in preparing and maintaining information for users Experience in using project planning tools like MS Project or similar Experience of working in partnership across organisational boundaries Fluency in English spoken and written is mandatory, as English is the working language This will be demonstrated through at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant disciplines.
