Calves in the Southern Plains and Southeast traded steady to $5 higher with demand for stocker cattle to send to wheat pasture. Price levels remain very attractive for yearlings coming off grass with good weighing conditions and strings of long-time weaned, fancy calves. The other side of the coin is extreme prejudice against un-weaned, fleshy bawlers (high risk) selling, in many cases, in small consignments of mixed quality and color. Last week, the fed market set another all-time high. In earlier times, that would be a headline-worthy event, but in today’s extraordinary market times, it’s almost a ho-hum occurrence. Wholesale Prices Spark Fed Cattle Market

Calf prices continued to flex contra-seasonal muscle, with calves trading $5-$10/cwt. higher, according to the Agricultural Marketing Service. Yearlings sold $3-$7 higher. Higher cash fed cattle prices and sharply higher wholesale beef prices provided support. read more
