Paris draft climate deal ready; long way to go
2015-12-06 22:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
NYSE Post: This new climate change draft has been in the works since 2011, where many are optimistic although in a more cautious tone, after delegates finally accepted this draft. Many disagreements remain, nearly all related to defining the obligations and expectations of rich and poor countries, as well as those who don't fit neatly into either category. Nor is there any agreement on capping the rise in average global surface temperatures at a particular level. Many developing nations want it to be no more...
Climate draft adopted, but political issues up in air

Democrat-Gazette: Negotiators from nearly 200 countries adopted a draft text Saturday that left many issues unresolved before talks this week aimed at reaching a global agreement to fight climate change. As the U.N. talks outside Paris reached their midway point, the 48-page draft agreement was sent along to environment and foreign ministers who will work on it this week. UN negotiations dating back to the early 1990s have failed to forge unity between rich and poor nations,...

Draft climate change deal lowers greenhouse gases by 2050
2015-12-05 20:04:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Engadget: Earth just took a tentative step toward a new, comprehensive plan for improving the environment. Representatives from 195 countries have approved a draft UN climate change agreement that will ask all participants to lower their carbon dioxide emissions. There are still many, many details left to resolve ahead of a final deal (ideally signed next week), but the ultimate goal is to have countries reduce their greenhouse gas levels by 2050, and to eliminate emissions completely between 2060 and 2080....

Paris climate change talks yield first draft amid air of optimism
2015-12-05 19:29:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: Negotiators paving the way for a global climate change agreement in Paris have cleared a major hurdle, producing a draft accord in record time and raising hopes that a full week of minister-led talks can now clinch a deal despite many sticking points. No part of the deal has been finalised because in the end it is likely to be a tradeoff between developing countries demands particularly for financing to help cope with the impacts of locked-in climate change and wealthier nations insistence...
