San Bruno: Prosecutors target PG&E record-keeping flaws linked to blast
2016-01-13 08:24:36| Energy - Topix.net
PG&E executives resisted efforts to reform the flawed record-keeping that was a key cause of a fatal explosion in San Bruno, according to a witness that federal prosecutors intend to present at a criminal trial for PG&E that's linked to the disaster. "It troubles us very much to see that there was this push-back from PG&E executives, and it shows that there continues to be a culture of business as usual at PG&E and prioritization of profits over safety," said Connie Jackson, San Bruno's city manager.

A federal judge has slashed the maximum fine that PG&E faces in a federal criminal trial stemming from a fatal explosion in San Bruno, ruling that instead of paying up to $1.13 billion if convicted, the utility giant won't have to pay more than $562 million. In a ruling on Dec. 8, the judge ordered that PG&E can escape paying $565 million in fines as punishment over allegations that the company was criminally responsible for causing the blast of natural gas that killed eight residents of a quiet San Bruno neighborhood in September 2010.
