Poste Italiane picks Vodafone for mobile services, TIM and Open Fiber for new fibre venture

(Telecompaper) The Italian post office (Poste Italiane) announced new contracts with Telecom Italia (TIM) and wholesale operator Open Fiber to bring fixed line high-speed broadband services to residents and businesses all over the country, above all in digital divide areas. "Thanks to this agreement, Poste Italiane will provide the country with fibre-optic services using ultra-broadband technologies, combining the capillarity of the post office network with the expansion of TIM's fibre network throughout the country," confirmed TIM in a brief statement.

Angolan govt picks Africell as fourth telecoms operator

(Telecompaper) Angola has awarded the licence for its fourth telecoms network to Lebanese group Africell, as Luanda opens other economic sectors to foreign competition, AFP reported. Angola had awarded the licence in 2019 to a domestic start-up called Telstar but President Joao Lourenco annulled the decision, saying the company failed to meet the bidding requirements. Africell already operates in Gambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and Uganda.

China Mobile picks Huawei, ZTE to deploy 200,000 5G base stations

(Telecompaper) Huawei and ZTE won China Mobile's latest tender of 5G contracts. Huawei and ZTE will deploy 200,000 5G base stations, or up to 85 percent of the base stations included in the project, Caixin reports, citing a China Mobile statement. The overall project will see the deployment of 232,143 5G wireless network base stations in 28 provincial-level regions.
