Federal government files suit against Edison over 2009 fire

Just days before the federal statute of limitations would have run out, the government has filed a lawsuit against Southern California Edison in connection to a 2009 fire that primarily burned the San Bernardino National Forest east of Hemet. The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday, an equipment malfunction sparked the fire that burned almost 4 square miles, about 3 of which were national forest land.

Federal government announces $385m to build 499 mobile base stations

Around 150,000 square kilometres of rural and regional Australia will get greatly improved mobile coverage thanks to $385 million in public and private funding. Around 499 base stations will be built across Australia with 429 being built by Telstra, 70 by Vodafone Hutchison Australia and none by Singtel-Optus.

Reuters: The federal government on Wednesday ordered a company at the center of a Southern California oil spill to continue its efforts to clean up the pipeline breach that dumped crude onto a pristine stretch of shoreline and into the Pacific Ocean.
