Our client is seeking a Product Processing Integration Engineer to support the Routine Operations phases of the Meteosat Second Generation MSG, Meteosat Transition MTP and Polar System EPS Programs. The successful candidate shall work in the Real time Services and System Operations RSO of the Operations and Services to Users Department as a member of the Data Processing Operations DPO Team supporting the operations of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems. Typical tasks and responsibilities will include supporting routine operations involving the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems, including Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 productspreparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operationsproviding Standby callout supportsupporting the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems, including the specification and validation of system updatessupporting the operations preparations for future MSG and EPS spacecraftsupporting the preparations for Meteosat Third Generationattendance at technical meetings participation in formal reviews. All applicants should have demonstrated experience in the field of Meteorological Satellite product handling with exposure to UserSystem requirements definition and validation in a satellite data environment along with experience in the realtime acquisition, Level 0 processing and Level 1 processing of data andor Level 2 processing of data from imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft and with UNIXLinux operating systems along with significant experience of validating complex remote sensing data processing systems. Experience and knowledge in the following areas would be an advantage imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft programming Languages e.g. C, C and Fortran scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Spacecraft andor ground segment operations geophysical remote sensing data processing, e.g. Image Navigation and Registration INR, radiometric correction, calibration algorithms and retrieval of geophysical All candidates must have a University or similar degree in a relevant discipline and be fluent in English, both spoken and written. We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a Product Processing Integration Engineer for the EPS Data and Product Processing Facilities Consultancy Support You will be based initially for 3 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Extension of a further 2 years may be possible. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities. Your Tasks Include As members of the SEP LEO Mission Data Processing Operational Applications maintenance team, the Key Person shall support the maintenance and evolution of the EPS Ground Segment, specifically the development and integration of new PPF. The application software is mainly developed in C and a good experience in C is therefore mandatory. For the PPF support knowledge of C will be needed in addition. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operation and maintenance, the analysis, design, development and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Person will be the focal point when it comes to integrating each individual Product Processing Facility into a system context, covering all aspects from early SW development, definition of interfaces, system integration and testing, and end to end testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers. Besides the above described routine tasks, the Key Person will also be expected to contribute to design and system engineeringreengineering activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. Candidate areas are programmes such as Jason, Saral, EARS, Sentinel 3, etc. Typically tasks will include 1. Contribute to the definition and design of architectures of data processing ground segments and their components, their interfaces, and the validation and verification methods. 2. Monitor the detailed design and implementation of new system software components by industrial contractors and perform the acceptance of externally developed components. 3. Support the operations of existing data processing ground segments and their maintenance and evolution. This will also include Upgrade software, including implementing and maintaining new algorithms and products for the EPS instrument suite, including rationalising common data processing components such as software libraries to reduce cost. 4. Support to procurement activities for maintenance and evolution activities as described under point 3. 5. Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as Support the Configuration Management process and the building and distribution of software releases and patches Support to the development, integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification. Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies 6. Perform standard SW engineering activities such as SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected. SW integration and verification in the EUMETSAT ground segments 7. Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, 8. Support to the procurement and installation of software, and the coordination with external providers of support services 9. Participation in meetings and formal reviews. Your Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key Person shall have experience in SW development, configuration controlled software build environments, experience with the operation, maintenance and trouble shooting of large, complex, realtime data processing systems. The Key Person shall have a minimum of 5 years work experience in UNIX application development and testing in C, C. The Key Person should possess very good communication, presentation and team working skills and be able to cope with very high workloads. An ability to adapt to a rapidly changing, often stressful environment and retain a system overview is also essential. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following areas is mandatory Experience of operating and maintaining software systems in a UNIX based environment specifically LINUX and AIX Software build environments and tools e.g. IBM XL C and GCC compilers, make, automake, autoconf Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, DBX, IBM Purify, Valgrind Performance analysis and improvement including Performance monitoring tools and techniques top, NMON, iostat, sar etc. in UNIX environments Source code control systems, preferably Subversion and CVS CC programming language experience in a UNIX based environment Competence in the use of scripting languages e.g., shell scripting and highlevel addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key languages e.g., Python, Java.
