Nigerian attorney general says MTN owes USD 2 bln in back taxes

(Telecompaper) MTN Group said the office of Nigeria's Attorney General (AG) calculates that MTN owes USD 2 billion in back tax related to the import of foreign equipment and payments to suppliers over the past ten years. MTN said that it had been in talks with the AG about an investigation into tax compliance, in a statement outlining the background to the case of money sent out of the country.

Nigerian court stops sale of 9mobile after motion by shareholders

(Telecompaper) The Nigerian High Court has stopped the sale of 9mobile following opposition to the deal by some shareholders of the company, ThisDay reported.Justice Binta Nyako gave the order stopping the sale while ruling on an ex parte motion brought by the shareholders. One of the companies said to be a shareholder in 9mobile and a plaintiff in the suit is owned by Katsina businessman, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal.
