May 31 Europe's six largest oil and gas companies, including Royal Dutch Shell and Britain's BP Plc, have united together in seeking help from the United Nations to stop global warming, the Financial Times reported on Sunday. The companies asked for direct talks with the United Nations and governments on creating a global carbon pricing system ahead of U.N. climate talks in Paris in December.

Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman and his Russian partners have come together to create a private-equity-style group that will invest in technology and telecom companies in the U.S. and Europe, the Financial Times reported. The private-equity fund called LetterOne Technology , will utilise its $16 billion in funds - stretchable up to $25 billion - to buy struggling telecom companies that require fresh infusion of capital or technology companies that make apps or streaming services that could be used by its global mobile operations, the FT quoted L1Technology's Chief Executive Alexey Reznikovich as saying.

John Browne, the former chief executive of BP , will take charge of a $10 billion oil and gas venture backed by Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman to help it expand internationally through partnerships and acquisitions, the Financial Times reported. Browne told the newspaper he will be appointed executive chairman of L1 Energy on Monday, giving up his jobs at private equity firm Riverstone and UK gas explorer Cuadrilla.
