Sasol says it will delay its decision on whether to build what would be the first gas-to-liquids plant in the U.S. as part of plans to mitigate against the drop in oil prices. The facility, to be located alongside an ethane cracker in Lake Charles, Louisiana, was estimated to cost $14 billion, the Johannesburg-based company said in 2013.

Dividend payouts from Sasol, the largest global producer of motor fuel from coal, will be under threat from next year should oil continue its retreat, according to Nedbank Capital. While the Johannesburg-based company would make payouts this year, the more than halving in the price of Brent since the end of June was cutting prospects beyond 2015, said Mohamed Kharva, a research analyst at the Nedbank Group unit, who has a buy recommendation on the stock.
