Both sides in the dispute said they would ask a judge to dismiss the case involving Robert Scheuer, an Oklahoma man whose air bags didn't inflate when his car crashed in 2014.

A former PG&E employee due to testify about stonewalling and document destruction linked to the company's gas pipeline system has also held private conversations with Carmel officials who fear the utility's record keeping remains so flawed that explosions such as those that happened in San Bruno and Carmel could reoccur, Carmel officials said in a statement Monday. "It is clear PG&E hasn't spent the time or money necessary to fix the biggest ongoing threat to public safety: accurate records of the pipelines beneath our homes and businesses," Carmel Mayor Jason Burnett said Monday.
