Blue and Green: The US state is restricting water use for agriculture because of a devastating four-year drought, despite fears that the move could threaten the countrys food production. The State Water Resources Control Board has announced that senior water right holders in Californias Sacramento, San Joaquin and delta watersheds wont be allowed to pump water for agricultural use anymore, because of the drought. According to the states water law, those holding water rights dating back to 1903 or later...

Telegraph: In February 2014 farmer Joe Del Bosque stood in his field in drought-stricken California's Central Valley being personally reassured by President Barack Obama that Washington would not let his crops wither and die. It was Mr Obama's one and only visit to this vast agricultural area, half the size of England, which provides half of America's fruit and vegetables. Last week Mr Del Bosque, 65, ran out of water. He had to destroy a 70-acre field that was supposed to produce 300,000 lbs of asparagus....

The life sciences industry in Washington state is booming , but it still can't keep up with California and Massachusetts. Early-stage life sciences companies in Washington state brought in $9.3 million last year from two types of federal grants from the National Institutes of Health .

Fitch Ratings upgraded the rating on Nova Chemicals Corp.'s $1.7 billion in debt to BBB-minus and revised its rating outlook to stable from positive. Fitch said Nova has benefited from low-cost feedstocks at its Canadian plants, has strong cash balances, and has reduced its debt since being acquired in 2009 by International Petroleum Investment Co.
