Description of the job Do you love coming up with effective solutions to practical electronics problems? Did you study robotics, electronic engineering or something similar and have since started to build your career, using LabView to design and build data acquisition systems or develop creative ideas for automation? Its here at Airbus in Filton that we are privileged to carry out this work, with our wind tunnel conducting experiments for both Airbus and External companies. Do you have a care and attention to detail, able to pick and apply different instrumentation and measurement techniques appropriately, taking inspiration from different fields and challenging how things are done? Would you like the opportunity to develop these abilities on wind tunnel models of aero engines, maybe a helicopter and of course on all our latest aircraft? If so, you will take a crucial role in our team, helping us deliver high quality aerodynamic and acoustic data to our customers. Tasks accountabilities Your Tasks o You will design and develop bespoke data acquisition and control systems for Wind Tunnel models, using the suite of National Instruments hardware and software. o You will provide inhouse electronics and instrumentation design and development services. o You will design and build embedded microprocessor circuits and develop software to perform data acquisition and control. o You will love developing your own technical knowhow and relish new, bigger challenges or problems to solve. o You will enjoy working in an international team to share ideas and come up with novel solutions to acquire, control and display test model data. o You will test, maintain, modify and calibrate existing instrumentation, specialist rigs and data acquisition systems. o You will carry out advanced data analytics, finding creative and practical solutions for data acquisition and processing. o You will document instrumentation and software used in the Wind Tunnel and Models. o You will design and build sensor harnesses and cabinet enclosures. o You will manage the routine calibration of equipment and sensors via the onsite calibration facility. You will have some travel within Europe, as required. Required skills As the successful candidate, you should be able to demonstrate the following o Degree level in robotics, electronicelectrical engineering, automation or similar. o A good foundation in programming large scale applications using National Instruments LabVIEW, with a desire to grow your abilities further, working stand alone or as part of a team. o Experience of building data acquisition and control systems using National Instruments PXI, Compact RIOFPGA, cDAQ and FieldPoint hardware. o Knowledge of analog and digital electronics including filters. o Experience in software development and circuit design for embedded microprocessors such as Microchip PIC32. o An ability to work handson from first principles to safely diagnose electrical and electronic issues to board level and implement prompt, effective and safe repair schemes. o A good working knowledge of instrumentation pressure transducers, strain gauges, temperature transducers, load cells, encoders etc. o Ability to produce wiringcircuit diagrams o Practical experience of sensor wiring, soldering and control cabinet assembly o A willingness to learn. o Team player and effective communicator o Ability to work systematically with attention to detail o Data analytical methods o Familiarisation with aerodynamic and wind tunnel terminology would be great albeit you can learn that here too. Under the direction of the CS GmbHs project manager the key person will be part of our software developers team. These team activities are dedicated to Mission Control Systems MCS maintenance and development activities.
