Orange reaches over 1 mln 4G customers in Spain
2014-04-10 11:56:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Orange Spain announced that it has passed 1 million customers using its 4G network. This counts customers with a 4G device and access to the LTE network included in their tariff plan. The number increased from 530,000 at the end of 2013. Orange attributed the strong growth to its network roll-out strategy, where it ensures 90 percent of a municipality is covered with 4G before opening up the services to customers. It also claims to have rolled out 25 percent more sites in the major cities than its competitors. It's also dedicated more spectrum in the 1,800 MHz band, at 15 MHz, than rivals, supporting speeds of over 100 Mbps. Total network coverage is around 50 percent of the population, in 200 municipalities. This should increase to over 400 cities by year-end, including all the provinicial capitals and cities of over 50,000 inhabitants, as well as airpots, commercial centres and exhibition centres, equal to around two-thirds of the population. Orange also highlighted its wide range of LTE devices available. According to figures from GfK, the operator led sales of 4G devices in the country in the past six months.
