Satellite Simulator Software Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for an engineer to support the evolution and maintenance of the EUMETSAT spacecraft simulators Systems. The work covers the support to routine operations for existing missions e.g. EPS and MSG, upcoming missions Copernicus and Sentinel3 and other future missions MTG, JasonCS and EPSSG. Tasks The key person will provide hisher prime support to the evolution and maintenance of the EUMETSAT Spacecraft Simulators in general and in particular to SIMULUS based simulators. The tasks of the key person will typically include Maintenance and Evolution Activities Preventive and corrective maintenance including the investigation and correction orfollowing the corrections implemented by external contractors of anomalies in thesoftware facilities and verification testing of the fixes Evolutions and changes generation andor analysis of userdriven and maintenance drivensoftware requirements, software design of the technical solutions, followingthe procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of thechanges Maintenance test procedures generation and updates of maintenance test proceduresat software facility level and at system level Support and development of the verification infrastructure development andorprocurement of scripts tools to perform installation checks, nonregression,functional and performance testing Analysis and implementation of mechanisms ortools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the applicationsoftware Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches, deliveryacceptance and installation onsite. This activity includes the technical coordination ofthe production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the applicationsoftware, liaison with the EUMETSAT operational users, participation to technicalreviews, participation to infactory at contractor premises acceptance testingcampaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite atEUMETSAT Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testingcampaigns. This activity includes preparation of test data, running the test procedureson the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results and troubleshootingof problems. User Support Software support software support to the endusers of the application software Ensure operations continuity by provision of oncall services and software support tooperations Training prepare and provide training covering systemusage and maintenance aspectsof the mission control systems. Technical Management Documentation generation and updates of technical documents Meeting participation participation to technical, progress and team meetings as neededand requested Routine reporting preparation and production of routine reports as necessary Contractor management at technical level acting as point of contact with the contractorfor technical discussions, organizing periodical technical meetings with the contractor Critical review of industry provided requirements and design definition related toexisting andor future simulators spacecraft models and simulator infrastructurecomponents. Software engineering framework support Analysis activities focused on a common software engineering framework for the GSIMission Control Applications and Tools Team Development of tools implementing this software engineering framework. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants require a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Essential The key person shall demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of simulator software maintenance, evolution and testing as well as space segment requirements and design with the followingareas Domain Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience, in software maintenance and evolution of SpacecraftSimulators based on SIMULUS software suite from ESAESOC. In particular,experience in all the following SIMULUS components is considered mandatorySIMSAT, Ground Models, Generic Models, REFA, Emulator Suite and tailoring,UMFEGOSMF. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the definition and design of SMP2 compliantsoftware models of spacecraft service platform subsystems DHS, AOCS, Thermal,Electrical, etc... Knowledge and understanding with actual working experience of space relatedstandards ECSS and CCSDS with specific reference to ECSSE7041A TM andTC packet utilization. Software Development Maintenance Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience in the full cycle of development of application softwarefor SIMULUS based simulator, following formal software engineering processes.This includes system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, softwaredesign and implementation reflecting maintenance activities as well as newapplications definition. Minimum of 3 years of experience in corrective maintenance, integration andverification testing activities of application software following formal softwareengineering processes. This includes requirement verification, generation of test planand test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of testtools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, andanomaly tracking, investigation, correction and testing Experience in defining automatic testing suites at unit and components integrationlevel. Software Engineering Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience in developing and maintaining software applications using Java and C programming languages under UNIX operating systems and development and maintenance of Javascript scripts SIMULUS scripting technology Minimum of 3 years of experience in developing and maintaining software applications using objectoriented technologies, Unified Modelling Language UML for software design and CASE design tools like Magic Draw. The Mission EUMETSAT is the European organisation tasked with providing satellitebased meteorological and climate monitoring services. Within EUMETSAT, the TSSGSI Division provides ground systems support to the organisation, including the provision of Operational Spacecraft Simulators for the various missions. The Mission Control and Application Tools MCAT team within TSSGSI includes software and systems engineers responsible for developing and maintaining the ground segment tools, including software engineers for operational satellite simulators. The Challenge This position is for software engineering consultancy support for the evolution and maintenance of the EUMETSAT spacecraft simulator systems. The position requires having a deep knowledge of the ESAESOC SIMULUS software suite, and also enough level of spacecraft simulator systems and subsystems modelling engineering expertise to be able to support of spacecraft simulators implemented with other technologies after a short learning period. The work covers the support to routine operations for existing missions e.g. EPS and MSG, coming missions such as Copernicus Sentinel3 and other future missions such as Meteosat Third Generation MTG, JASONCS and EPS Second Generation EPSSG. Tasks to be performed include Software maintenance and evolution activities User support Technical management Software engineering framework support The person shall work in the Mission Control Applications and Tools MCAT Team within the GSI Division in the TSS Department. The key person will report to the MCAT team leader. The tasks of the key person will be carried out at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Standby callout support during outside normal working hours may be required during special periods. This is a fulltime position on the Customer Site in Darmstadt Germany. The successful candidate will be responsible for the Mechanical Satellite element and lead the mechanical team on an Earth, Navigation and Science project through Phases A, B, CD and E.
