Telecommunications Satellite Payload Engineer

Summary Brand new opportunity for an experienced Telecomms Satellite engineer to join the Telespazio UK team, working onsite at ECSAT supporting novel technology development under the ARTES programme. Objective The post will allow the successful individual to identify and support technological advances and trends within telecommunications satellites. They will have the opportunity to develop and drive their vision and work plan within payload applications in the telecommunications domain. Responsibilities Duties The successful individual can expect to be involved in Supporting the initiation of activities related to technology and product development for payload applications. Supporting the establishment and control of relevant ESA requirements, specifications and general documentation. Evaluating, supporting negotiations, monitoring and controlling development contracts and activities. Preparing inputs to status reports. Contributing to the preparation of technology and product development work plans. Supporting other members of the section on their projects and sharing expertise within the section. Monitoring market and technology trends and developments in the area of satellite communication. Cooperating with specialists in other ESA departments. Identifying any issues during the procurement phase, the running or closing of an activity, and flagging them for attention in a timely manner. Supporting the timely preparation of papers for Adjudication Committee meetings or Delegate bodies IPC, JCB, with high quality standards. Providing inputs for the Department Business Intelligence management system. Supporting TIA communication activities in line with internal rules and guidance Following the relevant and applicable ISO procedures. Qualifications Experience University Masters degree or PhD or equivalent qualification in engineering or related discipline Experience in payload technology and products for telecommunication satellites. Essential Skills General experience with the design, analysis, qualification, testing and implementation of satellite payload equipment for telecommunication satellites Experience within one, or more, of the following areas Management of development contracts for satellite payload equipment. Design, development andor exploitation of antenna, digital or RF units, including low noise amplifiers, channel amplifiers and linearisers, power amplifiers, frequency converters, digital signal processors Knowledge of multiple different types of payload equipment and their functions at payload level Wider knowledge of the ARTES programme and Satcom market Strong understanding of active antenna operating prinicples, as well as implementation options and challenges. Qualities Proactive attitude to solving problems Good English language skills Good organisational and communication skills Able to work independently and in international teams

The scope of the role is wide ranging and includes both Validation and Ground Station Engineering Services. These can be broken down into tasks that include Review of compatibility verification matrix, test procedures and test results Definition and execution of the RF compatibility test plan and report Plan to configure, procure and validate a Network Data Interface Unit Maintain ESA Ground Station configurations Support ESA Ground Station upgrades from validation to handover of operations We would expect you to have an excellent telecommunication engineering knowledge including practical experience as an RF Engineer ideally at a Ground Station. Your knowledge of Ground Stations should be comprehensive and include architecture, subsystem maintenance, station performance, incident management and operations. You should also have experience of working in a configurationcontrolled environment and be able to produce technical reports to a high standard in the English language. The role will develop with different missions so we are looking for engineers who can demonstrate initiative and flexibility in a fastpaced environment, perhaps already familiar with the ESOC environment. Having a good understanding of RF compatibility tests, being familiar with ground station control processes, having some experience dealing with external interfaces and a familiarity with ground station maintenance and operations would all be considered advantageous.
