Power System Manager Solar Arrays and Batteries

The Airbus High Altitude Pseudo Satellite HAPS business which designs, builds and operates the world record breaking Zephyr solar electric UAVs is currently going through a rapid expansion process. Zephyr delivers a truly realtime satellite like capability and provides wide areas persistence at very low cost. Running exclusively on solar power and flying above the weather, typically at 65,000ft, Zephyr fills a capability gap between Satellites and conventional unmanned UAS. Airbus has a unique, demonstrated lead in the design, build and operation of HAPS allowing low risk access to world class development and an ability to evolve with advances in technology. A vacancy for a Power System Manager has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Farnborough to work on the ZEPHYR aircraft project. You will be responsible for all aspects of the delivery of the power system including battery and the solar array system on the Zephyr aircraft. You will analyse and benchmark new technologies and alternate suppliers in the batteries and solar arrays. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include To be responsible for managing key supplier relationships. To agree strategy for technical and work share split between suppliers and Airbus HAPS with the HAPS management team Through the Head of Engineering. To manage the specification of the power system and agree with the Zephyr Lead System Engineer. To manage the thermal design of the batteries for optimal operation in the Zephyr launch and operating environment. To specify design supply procure test the mechanical and thermal control measures required for installation on the aircraft. To maintain battery and solar array test facilities, EGSE, MGSE and storage facilities required for testing and operation. To manage the acceptance of batteries and solar arrays including qualification and acceptance testing. To deliver batteries and solar arrays to the projects against the agreed specification, Product Assurance policies timescale and cost. To be responsible for integration of the batteries and solar arrays on the aircraft. To manage the HS requirements for the batteries in all phases of use. To be prepared to travel overseas for regular progress meetings and flight operations. To influence the supplier roadmaps so that HAPS requirements are prioritised. To manage the acceptance of the arrays including qualification and acceptance testing. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Qualified to degree level in Aerospace engineering or similar. Strong experience with Batteries and Solar Arrays Power Systems. Strong Supplier Relationship Management experience. Experience of delivering innovative, high technology systems operating in a harsh and remote environment. Experience of Quality and Assurance management processes. Strong communication, negotiation, interpersonal skills. SunPower and ASUR collaborate to promote use of solar power in Mexican airports

U.S. oil producers, solar stocks gain after Congressional spending bill

Dec 16 Oil producers' shares rose while refiners fell in premarket trading on Wednesday after U.S. lawmakers approved a spending bill that would lift a 40-year-old ban on domestic crude exports. Shares of Exxon Mobil rose 0.4 percent to $79.75, while Chevron gained 1 percent to $93.70 in premarket trade.
