Description A Product Assurance Engineer Engineers is required to provide product assurance support to Astrium, the spacecraft Prime Contractor, for the Solar Orbiter mission. Solar Orbiter, scheduled for launch in 2017, is ESAs next medium class science mission, and will explore the nearSun environment with insitu and remote sensing instruments. The mission will be carried out in collaboration with NASA. The post of Product Assurance Engineer requires previous engineering experience in the field of product assurance PA and quality assurance QA in space related industry. The Key Person shall provide support to Prime Contractor staff in conducting, monitoring and assessing the implementation of the Solar Orbiter PA and Safety plan in accordance with ECSS requirements. The required tasks will cover the following disciplines Product assurance coordination to ensure that PA and QA requirements are fully implemented for spacecraft subsystems and equipments Cleanliness and contamination support for the implementation and execution of control requirements Dependability and safety support to ensure that all requirements related to reliability, availability, maintainability and safety RAMS are implemented Specific tasks related to the above disciplines include Coordination and provision of PA, Cleanliness and Contamination Control and RAMS inputs for technical and progress meetings, advisory boards and design and test reviews Management and flight approval of parts, materials and processes Inspections, audits and control of issues related to nonconformance and supplier waiverdeviation Management of PA issues resulting from design tradeoffs Risk assessment and mitigation Equipment qualification and supplier compliance to product liability and safety legislation Management of contamination monitoring at STM spacecraft, Prime test bench and flight spacecraft levels Coordination and synthesis of the Solar Orbiter End of Life Cleanliness Analysis Maintenance of a Single Points of Failure list for all subsystems and equipments Support to the Prime Contractor engineering team for FDIR policy definition and consolidation Preparation of the spacecraft Contingency Analysis for the Flight Operations Manual Act as a focal point between ESA, Astrium and subcontractors for all PAQA matters Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, the Key Person should have as a prerequisite proven PA experience as defined in the standard ECSSSST00C including the specific fields Q30, Q40 and Q70. The Key Person shall have excellent communication skills in English, and be used to working proactively within a small team with the minimum of supervision. The variety of the tasks and the scope and complexity of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. Flexibility, the ability to perform under very high workloads and the capability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment are essential qualities required for the post. Experience of working in an international environment and knowledge of one or more languages from the ESA member states will be considered an asset. The work will be carried out on site at the premises of the Prime Contractor, Astrium Limited, in Stevenage, UK. The appointment will be for an initial period of 2 years with possible extensions.
