Apple makes renewable energy push with solar, fuel cells
2013-03-21 19:20:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: Apple Inc now runs its largest U.S. data center entirely on renewable energy, with a majority of the power generated on-site from solar panels and fuel cells, the company's chief financial officer, Peter Oppenheimer, said on Thursday. The data center in Maiden, North Carolina, which supports Internet storage and Apple's service-hosting iCloud product, produces 167 million kilowatts -- the power equivalent of 17,600 homes for one year -- from a 100-acre solar farm and fuel cell installations provided...

Voyager-1, and human civilization, finally leave the Solar System
2013-03-20 20:41:57| Extremetech
35 years after its launch, NASA's Voyager-1 spacecraft has finally left the Solar System -- the first ever man-made object to do so. It will now continue on a course that, in 40,000 years, will take it within 1.7 light years of a star called AC+793888 -- the first man-made object to pass so close to another star, and potentially other planets. Eventually, millions of years from now, Voyager-1 will reach the core of the Milky Way.
