Solar energy on the rise in Germany
2013-01-02 10:59:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Deutsche Welle: Solar energy is on the rise in Germany, with a record 1.3 million photovoltaic systems in 2012. The increase comes as new consumer taxes on energy are to take effect in the country. The recent solar boom means the alternative form of energy now reaches 8 million homes in Germany, a 45 percent increase compared to 2011, the German Solar Industry Association (BSW) said on Tuesday. "Germany is now reaping the fruits of its efforts in solar technology," said the BSW's chief executive, Carsten Körnig....

Will the sun shine on solar power in India in 2013?
2013-01-02 10:59:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Economic Times: It was never the lack of sunshine but high costs that prevented India to tap solar power. That economics is changing fast, making solar power a viable option. Says Kameswara Rao, leader, energy, utilities and mining, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) India, "There is considerable excitement on account of decline in capital costs over the years which has brought grid parity closer to reach. " From a peak of about Rs 18 per unit three years back solar power is now under Rs 11 per unit, making it a viable...

Bloomberg: German developers added a record number of solar panels in the first 11 months of last year, more than double the quantity targeted by the government. Solar installations rose 62 percent to about 7,274 megawatts from January through November, compared with about 4,502 megawatts a year earlier, according to data from federal grid regulator Bundesnetzagentur. The government had sought to limit capacity additions to a maximum of 3,500 megawatts. Chancellor Angela Merkel has cut solar-power subsidies...
